{"id":994,"date":"2008-07-28T13:42:54","date_gmt":"2008-07-28T17:42:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.obieta.com\/?p=22"},"modified":"2008-07-28T13:42:54","modified_gmt":"2008-07-28T17:42:54","slug":"the-hibernate-option-is-not-available-in-windows-vista","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/obieta.com\/?p=994","title":{"rendered":"The Hibernate option is not available in Windows Vista"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 class=\"title\">SYMPTOMS<\/h1>\n<p class=\"section\">loadTOCNode(1, &#8216;symptoms&#8217;);<\/p>\n<p class=\"sbody\">In Windows Vista, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:<\/p>\n<table class=\"list ul\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td class=\"bullet\">\u2022<\/td>\n<td class=\"text\">The <strong class=\"uiterm\">Hibernate<\/strong> option is not available in the <strong class=\"uiterm\">Start<\/strong> menu power options menu.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td class=\"bullet\">\u2022<\/td>\n<td class=\"text\">The <strong class=\"uiterm\">Hibernate<\/strong> option is not available in the <strong class=\"uiterm\">Shut Down Windows<\/strong> dialog box.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong> To open the <strong class=\"uiterm\">Shut Down Windows<\/strong> dialog box, press ALT+F4.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td class=\"bullet\">\u2022<\/td>\n<td class=\"text\">The <strong class=\"uiterm\">Hibernate<\/strong> option is not available on the power button menu that appears on the secure desktop.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong> You can access the secure desktop&#8217;s power button menu when you log off from Windows Vista.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p class=\"topOfPage\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"tocHeadRef\" class=\"subTitle\">CAUSE<\/h2>\n<p>loadTOCNode(1, &#8217;cause&#8217;);<\/p>\n<p class=\"sbody\">This issue occurs if one of the following conditions is true:<\/p>\n<table class=\"list ul\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td class=\"bullet\">\u2022<\/td>\n<td class=\"text\">The Disk Cleanup Utility and has been used to delete the Hibernation File Cleaner.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td class=\"bullet\">\u2022<\/td>\n<td class=\"text\">The computer does not support the hibernation feature.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td class=\"bullet\">\u2022<\/td>\n<td class=\"text\">The hibernation feature is disabled.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td class=\"bullet\">\u2022<\/td>\n<td class=\"text\">The Hybrid Sleep feature is enabled.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Hybrid Sleep feature puts the computer to sleep and generates a hibernation file when the user chooses the <strong class=\"uiterm\">Sleep<\/strong> option in any of the power option menus. Therefore, <strong class=\"uiterm\">Hibernate<\/strong> does not appear as a power option when Hybrid Sleep is enabled.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p class=\"topOfPage\">RESOLUTION<\/p>\n<p>loadTOCNode(1, &#8216;resolution&#8217;);<\/p>\n<p class=\"sbody\">To resolve this issue, use the PowerCfg command-line tool to enable the hibernation feature. To do this, follow these steps.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong> If the computer does not support the hibernation feature, you cannot enable the feature. For information about how to use the PowerCfg tool to determine whether the computer supports the hibernation feature, see the &#8220;More Information&#8221; section.<\/p>\n<table class=\"list ol\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td class=\"number\">1.<\/td>\n<td class=\"text\">Click <strong class=\"uiterm\">Start<\/strong><img class=\"graphic\" title=\"the Start button\" src=\"http:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/library\/images\/support\/kbgraphics\/Public\/EN-US\/VistaStartButton.jpg\" alt=\"the Start button\" \/>, type <span class=\"userInput\">command<\/span> in the <strong class=\"uiterm\">Start Search<\/strong> box, right-click <strong class=\"uiterm\">Command Prompt<\/strong> in the <strong class=\"uiterm\">Programs<\/strong> list, and then click <strong class=\"uiterm\">Run as administrator<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"graphic\" title=\"User Account Control permission\" src=\"http:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/library\/images\/support\/kbgraphics\/Public\/EN-US\/SecurityShield.jpg\" alt=\"User Account Control permission\" \/> If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click <strong class=\"uiterm\">Continue<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td class=\"number\">2.<\/td>\n<td class=\"text\">At the command prompt, type <span class=\"userInput\">powercfg \/hibernate on<\/span>.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p class=\"topOfPage\"><a href=\"http:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/kb\/929658#top\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"tocHeadRef\" class=\"subTitle\">MORE INFORMATION<\/h2>\n<p>loadTOCNode(1, &#8216;moreinformation&#8217;);<\/p>\n<p class=\"sbody\">You can also use the PowerCfg command-line tool to determine whether the computer supports the hibernation feature.
