{"id":34,"date":"2010-05-24T23:48:47","date_gmt":"2010-05-25T03:48:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.obieta.com\/?p=34"},"modified":"2010-05-24T23:48:47","modified_gmt":"2010-05-25T03:48:47","slug":"installing-sharepoint-on-windows-server-2008-r2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/obieta.com\/?p=34","title":{"rendered":"Installing SharePoint on Windows Server 2008 R2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With Windows Server 2008 R2 available as a release candidate,  you may have tried installing MOSS on it already without success and  received an error similar to this: &#8220;The program is blocked due to  compatibility issues&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.keirgordon.com\/image.axd?picture=WindowsLiveWriter\/InstallingSharePointonWindowsServer2008R_992E\/image_2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: 0 none;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.keirgordon.com\/image.axd?picture=WindowsLiveWriter\/InstallingSharePointonWindowsServer2008R_992E\/image_thumb.png\" border=\"0\" alt=\"image\" width=\"451\" height=\"216\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>SharePoint SP2 enables  compatibility with Server 2008 R2, so first you&#8217;ve got to make a  slipstream install &#8212; then you can install without any problem.<\/p>\n<p>The steps for making a slipstreamed installation of MOSS are pretty  simple.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Download a MOSS image, and extract it (or copy  the contents) to a folder.<\/li>\n<li>Download WSS and MOSS SP2 patches<\/li>\n<li>Run each patch with \/extract:&lt;c:mymossimage&gt;Updates<\/li>\n<li>Delete  Wsssetup.dll from the updates folder.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Keep in mind that if  you have the combined x86\/64 MOSS ISO, your updates folder will be in  x64Updates or x86Updates.<\/p>\n<p>For the juicy details, follow the  technet article:<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"http:\/\/technet.microsoft.com\/en-us\/library\/cc261890.aspx\" href=\"http:\/\/technet.microsoft.com\/en-us\/library\/cc261890.aspx\">http:\/\/technet.microsoft.com\/en-us\/library\/cc261890.aspx<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Once you have your slipstream image ready, you&#8217;ll need to  enable a few roles on your Server 2008 R2 box.<\/p>\n<p>See the screen  capture below for the roles I added:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.keirgordon.com\/image.axd?picture=WindowsLiveWriter\/InstallingSharePointonWindowsServer2008R_992E\/image_4.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: 0 none;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.keirgordon.com\/image.axd?picture=WindowsLiveWriter\/InstallingSharePointonWindowsServer2008R_992E\/image_thumb_1.png\" border=\"0\" alt=\"image\" width=\"506\" height=\"374\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now you  should be able to run the MOSS installation without any problems!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With Windows Server 2008 R2 available as a release candidate, you may have tried installing MOSS on it already without success and received an error similar to this: &#8220;The program is blocked due to compatibility issues&#8221;.
