  1. Rebuild the software distribution folder

    net stop wuauserv
    net stop bits
    rename <c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.bak>
    net start wuauserv
    net start bits

  1. Clear the Catroot 2 folder contents
    Open an elevated Command Prompt, type the following command one after the other and hit Enter:

    net stop cryptsvc
    md %systemroot%\system32\catroot2.old
    xcopy %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 %systemroot%\system32\catroot2.old /s

    2a) delete all the contents of the catroot2 folder
    2b) net start cryptsvc

  2. Try the install again after 15-20 min
